In The Voicemail, I combined my love for experimental filmmaking with a narrative story. To tell such a dark story without exploiting it required After I conceptualized the idea, I wrote the voicemail script which started off as a letter, but the more emotions that were brought out, that was changed. I did let my actress improv a little bit to bring more real emotion to it. For the idea of a reveal, I wanted to show the audience space, start to zoom in and focus without showing the bigger picture until the end. So, I used a lot of close-ups of objects to give Sam a personality. I wanted her to feel like a real person. While we see all of these things in her room and the bathroom we hear Claire's voicemail. It starts as a friend just wanting to watch up, but the more we hear the more worried she becomes and the more ominous the scene unfolding becomes.
